What else I played this year.
As a much smaller scale write-up I’d like to talk about some of the other games I’ve been playing this year that don’t get talked about in the main list.
Don’t expect the same quality with the main list here, I’m just going to write a sentence about each game I mention, I just wanted to list them in some way.
Sonic Frontiers
First Sonic game I’ve properly played since Sonic Unleashed and it’s damn good time. I’m still yet to finish the story but really enjoying the story currently and Sonic feels great to play in those open area sections.
Fishing is always a bonus in a game and that soundtrack is amazing, which isn’t anything new for a Sonic soudtrack.
No More Heroes 3
Played this last year on the Nintendo Switch and bought it again on PC. Messed around with the files as I saw it makes the game look a whole lot better and it sure did the trick.
No More Heroes 3 is such an amazing game, despite all it’s flaws and those flaws even add to the chaotic nature of the game to me.
Gameplay is at its best and it is a visual feast. Not a single miss on the soundtrack either, greatness from start to end.
Ghostwire Tokyo
I like this game a whole damn lot. Definitely understand the critique I saw towards the game when it released but for me it really scracthed that itch of game that doesn’t complicate anything. For good or bad it’s straightforward.
Vampire Survivors
The numbers get big and flashy and it makes my brain happy.
Hyper Demon
This game is messed up and is the best shooter, up there with ULTRAKILL.
Cultic
Damn good shooter, a lot of Resident Evil 4 influences and that’s not a bad thing at all. Cultic really stands on its own as a shooter in the resurgence of shooters that are all aiming for a specific moment in time for the genre.
Dwarf Fortress
How do you play this game.
Hardspace: Shipbreaker
The best podcast game on the market.
Slowly making my way through this and the story and characters are incredible. If you played Citizen Sleeper and really liked what it had to say you’ll really like a lot about Hardspace too if you don’t mind its slow gameplay.
Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
Really liked this game and happy it arrived on PC so soon. Made a lot of improvements on the original Spider-Man game and makes me excited for where Insomniac take the world and characters going forward in Spider-Man 2.
RPG Time: The Legend of Wright
This is the perfect game for the Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck. Really capture thats creativity you can have in school and using it as it’s sole way of gameplay and storytelling is genius.
Marvel’s Midnight Suns
Let Firaxis make whatever turn-based game they want at this point.
Found it funny that people wrote this game off because it was turned based and a deckbuilder, not like every other Marvel game was an action adventure game.
Oh well, Midnight Suns is a really good game with a strong cast of heroes that I both know and don’t know about and has been really nice learning about them. The parts were you’re in combat are great and remind me a lot of Into the Breach and the slower, calmer parts are still good as well. Even if it not the most engaging once you start the game.
Betrayal At Club Low
Amazing TTRPG by Cosmo D Studios. As visually pleasant and surreal as any of their other works.
So many ways you can play this game as seeing every side of it is a pure joy.
Potionomics
Really liked my time in Potionomics and will start a new playthrough as I found it hard to wrap my head around at first and want to start new using what I learned.
I’m one (1) of those people that really like time limits, so this game is that perfect balance for me of relaxed and tense.
